Merry Christmas from A Beautiful Gory Display! Ordinarily, this time of year would have us talking about that time Santa Claus joined the Justice League, our focus is different this year. See, thanks to Christmas falling on a Friday, there’s a weird convergence with UPS shipping schedules and Diamond Distribution’s holiday hours. Basically this means that next week, for the first time since the late 70’s, there won’t be any new comics shipping to retailers.
You wouldn’t think this would be a big deal, but for the comic stores, it is. The margins are razor-thin in this business, and most stores make their nut on Wednesdays, when the new books hit the shelves. Take that away, and it’s going to be a dire week for the retailers. For a lot of stores, it’s going to be hard to keep the lights on next week.
Want to make somebody’s day? Hit your local comic store next week and buy something. No fooling around, if you drop fifteen or twenty bucks you will make a huge difference. Plus, you’re supporting local business, which NPR is always telling you to do.
