Back when Kevin Smith made Clerks, his style was legitimately refreshing. It was a poorly-directed little movie, made of nothing more than passion and credit card debt. Youthful enthusiasm rendered it immune to criticism, and it stood as a very funny, very dirty movie.His eighth film, Zack and Miri Make a Porno is still poorly directed, but now that Smith is pushing 40 and has been making movies for 14 years, he can’t coast on “youthful enthusiasm” anymore. Sadly, it’s becoming increasingly clear that it’s all he has to offer.
Zack and Miri follows two slackers (is that what they still call them these days?) who run out of money and options. Inspired by some adult film stars at their high school reunion (I know…), they decide there’s big money to be made in porn. And along the way, they fall in love, and Jason Mewes’ genitals are displayed from every possible angle.
