Aaron Sorkin and I have a complicated relationship. Technically, all the complications are on my side, since he doesn’t know I exist. Regardless, he’s a tough guy to like. I enjoy a lot of his work, especially Sports Night, which ran on ABC for two seasons. I love Sports Night so much, it hurts a little. Unfortunately, both his public persona and last year’s Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip did some serious damage. Studio 60 was self-indulgent and petty, with Sorkin patterning the sympathetic characters on himself in the most blatant example of “Mary Sue Syndrome” ever seen outside of Star Trek fan fiction.
