We’re in the final stretch of Venture Bros. Season One, and episode 10 brings us “Are You There, God? It’s Me, Dean.”, which is pretty much a perfect episode. This one’s an old-fashioned hoot, and among other firsts, it gives us the first real interaction between the Monarch and Brock Samson. The role of the Guild of Calamitous Intent gets a little more defined, we get a little bit of insight into Billy Quizboy and Pete White, and a couple of running gags are born.
The title, obviously comes from Judy Blume’s Are You There, God? It’s Me, Margaret. Now, I wasn’t allowed to read this one as a kid, so I don’t really know what the book’s about, but I think it’s about a girl getting her first period. Is that right? I’d feel weird about Googling Judy Blume, even though that’s certainly not the weirdest thing that recapping Venture Bros. has forced me to research.
