The Dark Knight Rises – A Brief History of Selina Kyle

Christopher Nolan recently announced some casting news for The Dark Knight Rises, his third Batman movie.  Specifically, Inception’s Tom Hardy will be playing Bane, while Anne Hathaway has been cast as Selina Kyle.  While Hardy’s participation has been known for a while, this is the first official word as to his character.  And while we all knew there’d probably be a woman in the movie, now we’ve got the name of the actress and the character.

Some of you may be wondering, who the heck is Bane?  And who is this Selina Kyle?  And what about the persistent, though unconfirmed, rumor that Robin Williams is playing Professor Hugh Strange?  You’re probably thinking “I certainly hope some guy who knows a lot about Batman clues me in before the movie comes out so I can seem informed”.
