The Dark Knight Rises – A Brief History of Selina Kyle

In 2001, the WB ran the short-lived Birds of Prey.  The live-action series was set in a world where Bruce Wayne married Selina Kyle and they had a daughter.  I don’t think Bruce or Selina ever appeared onscreen, but still, there was a network series where Batman’s hot daughter wore leather and kicked dudes.  Truly, it was a golden age.

Selina also appeared in Batman: The Animated Series.  Voiced by Adrienne Barbeau, she was portrayed as a thief with a social conscience, and never actually malicious.  The romance angle was there, but it was mostly between Batman and Catwoman – after her first appearance, their alter egos never really interacted.   She’s even made a couple of appearances in the current Batman: The Brave and the Bold, including an episode set in a future where Bruce and Selina get married and retire, and another episode that hasn’t aired in the US yet because of a musical number where Catwoman alleges that Aquaman has a small penis.  I am not making this up.
