The Dark Knight Rises – A Brief History of Selina Kyle

Outside of the comics, Catwoman was a recurring villainess on the 60s Batman TV series, played by either Julie Newmar, Lee Merriweather, or Eartha Kitt, without explanation as to why her costume and ethnicity would occasionally change.  I’m not sure the name “Selina Kyle” was ever used in this series, but they didn’t usually delve into villain backgrounds.  They didn’t play up the romantic connection either, at least not more than they did with any other female character in the entire series.  The ladies love Adam West.  Thanks to that series, she’s usually viewed in the mainstream as one of the big four Bat-villains, along with Joker, Penguin, and the Riddler.
