The Cape – A Look at TV’s Best (and Worst) Superheroes

1.  The Gray Ghost (Batman – The Animated Series) – That’s right, I’m getting Batman on the list if it kills me.  And the Gray Ghost isn’t just a TV superhero – he’s a superhero who appears on TV within a TV show.  The Ghost was Bruce Wayne’s favorite hero growing up, and he never missed an episode.  Years later, the actor who played the Ghost, Simon Trent, found himself typecast and broke.  And then he actually gets to don his old TV costume to help Batman stop a mad bomber who took inspiration from old episodes of The Gray Ghost.  His appearance makes for one of the best episodes of Batman – it’s a great moment when he realized that his TV character helped inspire Batman.  While the Gray Ghost only made one appearance, his name popped up on several other DC animated series, including an episode of Batman Beyond where an elderly Bruce Wayne wears a Gray Ghost costume to hide his identity.  And the best part of all this?  Simon Trent was voiced by none other than TV’s original Batman, Adam West.

  1. You know what might have made Ghettoman even more offensive? If he’d had a partner named Warsaw Ghetto Man and his super power was sending back soup in a deli or something. I can’t believe that even existed!
