The Cape – A Look at TV’s Best (and Worst) Superheroes

4.  Bibleman – I’ve never actually seen any of the Bibleman videos or programs.  However, he is a religious superhero played by Willie Aames.  Everything about that is strange and offputting.  Does he fight evil, or just spread the Word?  And is he able to condemn evildoers to Hell or merely drop them off at the police station?  And Willie Aames?  Seriously?

3.  Ghettoman (Legends of the Superheroes) – This one’s a real oddity.  Legends of the Superheroes aired as two live-action specials in 1979.  It starred Adam West and Burt Ward as Batman and Robin, and a bunch of people you’ve never heard of as other DC heroes like Green Lantern, Hawkman, The Flash, Captain Marvel, The Atom, Huntress, and Black Canary.  Superman and Wonder Woman didn’t appear because there is no way that Christopher Reeve and Lynda Carter were coming anywhere near this mess.  (Looking up the cast pictures, I’m surprised to see how much cleavage they let Huntress and Canary show.  I didn’t know people had that much cleavage in the 70s!)

  1. You know what might have made Ghettoman even more offensive? If he’d had a partner named Warsaw Ghetto Man and his super power was sending back soup in a deli or something. I can’t believe that even existed!
