The Cape – A Look at TV’s Best (and Worst) Superheroes

Strangely, there were some really obscure villains on there (Mordru?  That guy made it?), and in addition to Frank Gorshin reprising his Riddler role, comedians Charlie Callas and Jeff Altman appeared as Sinestro and Weather Wizard, respectively.  Anyway, the first special has super-heroics, albeit stupid and poorly executed.  The second was a roast of the heroes, hosted by Ed McMahon.  So we’re off to a bad start.  It gets worse – one of the roasters is the “regional superhero” Ghettoman.  He delivers a cringe-inducing monologue that serves only to remind us that in the 70s, racism was hilarious.  OK, he actually has one good line – “Green Lantern over there gets his powers from a ring.  We’ve got somebody just like that.  We call him Sammy Davis Jr.”  I’ll admit, I laughed at that.  Everything else about Ghettoman’s appearance (and the whole enterprise, actually) is just awful.

  1. You know what might have made Ghettoman even more offensive? If he’d had a partner named Warsaw Ghetto Man and his super power was sending back soup in a deli or something. I can’t believe that even existed!
