The Crowded Snowglobe

Newhart: The Bob Newhart Show had its share of crossovers, mostly with the various characters popping up on other shows years later. Elliot Carlin, as mentioned above, appeared on St. Elsewhere, but he also appeared on ALF. Bob Hartley’s secretary worked for Murphy Brown for a day.

But most importantly, the entire run of Newhart turned out to be a dream of Bob Newhart’s Bob Hartley. And since Bob Hartley can be linked to St. Elsewhere, it’s a dream within a dream. Tommy Westphall dreamed of a man who dreamed of another world entirely. If we start getting into the crossovers created by Newhart (Larry, Darryl, and Darryl got around!), we drag more shows into the dream of the dreamed, and we’ll disappear down the rabbit hole.
