Tom Waits Week: Mule Variations and Beyond (1999-present)

Bawlers – “Take Care of All My Children”, “Long Way Home”, “Down There by the Train”

Bastards – “Army Ants”, “First Kiss”, “Dog Door”

Last month, Waits released Glitter and Doom, a two-disc live album from his 2008 tour. It boasts some great versions of recent and obscure work. As much as I love it, I’m really eager to see where his next studio album goes. Will it continue in his current vein, or will Tom Waits reinvent himself yet again? He’s sixty years old this week, and the man keeps pushing himself in new directions.
