In the past, man always defeated the monsters with their weaponry, courage, and ingenuity. King Kong fell to his death, Godzilla was wounded enough that he returned to the sea, and Gamera eventually became Earth’s defender. “Cloverfield”, on the other hand, doesn’t even tell us if we win.
