The previous film ended with Bender accidentally creating a paradox and ripping a hole in reality – Beast with a Billion Backs picks up one month later. There’s still a rift in the sky, and panicky citizens are starting to get exhausted. Fry has finally given up on his crush on Leela and found love with Colleen (Brittany Murphy). Bender has taken to stalking robot soap-opera star Calculon, and Leela is irritated as ever. When Fry and Bender are both driven to depression, Fry finds solace with the hole in the sky, and Bender joins the legendary League of Robots. And then it gets weird. An infinite number of tentacles invade our universe and gradually attach themselves to every living being. See, the tentacles belong to Yivo, the sole lonely resident of another universe. After millennia of solitude shlee (the preferred pronoun for a genderless universe) has decided to romance everybody in the universe. Simultaneously and continuously. As if we weren’t firmly ensconced in an almost unparalleled amount of perfection, let me throw this in: Yivo is voiced by David Cross. The mathematical equation created by this convergence would even baffle the legendarily overeducated Futurama writing staff. If David Cross makes everything better, and Futurama is flawless, what happens when David Cross appears on Futurama? I’m pretty sure you need to invent numbers to solve that equation.
