But it’s time to pick up the pieces and move on. Semifinals this week! Four dancers enter, three dancers leave! I mean, they all leave eventually. It’s not like this is a bloodsport or anything.
Tom Bergeron calls Bristol “The Comeback Kid”, and I really hope that’s not the narrative for the season. Like I said, nicer than I expected, but there’s no way she should be in the finals. And because we’re down to 90 minutes, they’re going to head straight to the dancing. Since there are only four, I’ll just keep them in chronological order this time.
Brandy and Maks (57/60) – Tom reminds us of Maks and Carrie Ann arguing about what constitutes an “instant dance”. I think she’s in the wrong here – there are plenty of dances that don’t really start until a few measures in. Len hates that, but at least he’s consistent in his hate. She’s never complained before, so I don’t think she can start now. Two dances this week, and their first is the paso doble. My favorite! It starts out deliberately awkward, with Brandy looking uncertain as part of the choreography. Maks strides away from her, while Brandy dances a really powerful solo behind his back. It’s a really unconventional paso, but it has a lot of character. It’s really good.
