Sugar Ray Leonard (17/30) – It’s hard to say, but Sugar Ray might be one of the most famous people ever to appear on this show. And his partner is Anna Trebunskaya, who would get my votes if she danced with John Wayne Gacy. Luckily, Sugar Ray seems like a swell guy. He says he was a “disaster”. Anna says that he’s used to protecting himself, but in dancing, you have to open up. Yeah, that’s going to be counterintuitive for him. I hadn’t really thought of that.
It’s another Foxtrot, and he starts out sitting in the audience, until Anna brings him out of his chair with “The Power of Love”. Some weird camera angles keep me from seeing his feet, but they move around the floor really well – their hold is very fluid. And he’s beaming the whole time, which makes me happy. He’s got a couple of nice jumps near the end, too. It’s a fairly simple dance without a lot of flash, but this bodes well for his dancing career.
