The Macy’s Stars of Dance is back with a tribute to the people of Haiti. We get the devestating facts and figures, but nothing can compare to Haitian pro dancer Emmanuel Pierre-Antoine (a world mambo champion) relating the way he found out about the quake while in New York teaching. He immediately flew to Haiti and got the tragic news that his son, Eshan, had died in the quake. Of course, Eshan is one the most adorable toddlers you will ever see in your life. Emmanuel wants to honor his son’s memory with positivity and express hope through his dancing. The five couples, all with presumable ties to Haiti, including Emmanuel, come out and dance a fierce mambo to Shakira’s “Hips Don’t Lie”, but probably mostly because Haiti’s Wyclef Jean also sings on the record. It’s an amazing show of strength that I must salute. Emmanuel seems drained by the end, hanging his head. And there’s a website for people to visit: www.abettercommunity.org
