This leads us into the Macy’s Stars of Dance performance. Tonight’s was created by Brian Friedman, who we’re supposed to know from his work on videos for Britney Spears, Madonna and NSync. I’m kind of at a loss to describe this thing in writing. Um, let’s see. Everyone is in black dominatrix wear, and it’s dark, so we can see that they are also all wearing strands of LED lights somewhere on their costumes. It’s a little like the 80s Broadway musical Starlight Express, but not on roller skates, and also exactly what you might expect from the person known for choreographing Britney and NSync. I’m also vaguely reminded of some of the more futuristic striptease numbers in Flashdance. It’s set to some dance pop music I can’t identify and the one lead dancer, a former Pussycat Doll, is supposedly a woman but looks rather mannish. The other lead is from the movie Step Up, which, thank goodness Sam told me, because I couldn’t pick her out of a lineup. At one point, the she-male has a ribbon, as if we’re working in a rhythmic gymnastics routine. It’s totally weird.
