Maybe she missed out on parts of her own childhood helping to care for Jean? I don’t know, but I loved it. Sue doesn’t have to be the focus of every installment, but don’t forget about her, please!
The Music–This may go without saying, but the music on this show is what makes it completely unique. You never know what you’re going to get, and that added element of surprise is great. The first volume of Season One’s music features stuff from “Gold Digger” by Kanye West to Broadway standards like “Maybe this Time” and “Defying Gravity”. Music is brilliantly used as metaphors for characters and plot lines but it usually doesn’t feel heavy-handed. I know some people have found the way the characters are lip synching to studio tracks to be somewhat off-putting, but I am willing to write that off as a necessary evil. And, the itunes downloads and CD sales are a boon for the network, which just means the show will be economically viable even if ratings ebb and flow. So far, however, the show has settled into a comfy spot in the ratings and remained solid. It isn’t number one, but it’s consistent.
