The show is helmed by Ryan Murphy, creator of outlandish fare like Popular and Nip/Tuck; shows that are not for everyone, but are always a feast for the eyes and full of great dialogue.
If nothing else, the music makes Glee worth a try, including showstopping choral versions “Rehab” and “Don’t Stop Believing”, and the previews insure more to come. FOX is attempting a very 21st century marketing tactic by launching the show with a May pilot, making it available online all summer and promoting new episodes in the fall. The show’s retention out of American Idol‘s penultimate episode was not great, but strong word of mouth could boost numbers for fall and the show’s overall credibility. Sure, there’s a lot of exposition to get past, as with any pilot, but there is something very clever and funny here that deserves a shot.
