Now, there are some good crossovers from this period. The Homicide / Law & Order crossovers hold up really well, because they don’t make a big deal about them – they treat the stories as two different police departments working together on a case that crosses jurisdictional lines. I also like the way they intertwined the backstories of Lenny Briscoe and John Munch – it made it feel like they were really based out of the same world. And theoretically, you could watch any one of the episodes without knowing that the other show existed and the story still works.
