So what made us happy on TV this week?
The Ricky Gervais Show – We can always count on this HBO animated series for laughs, but this week’s episode was a standout. Not only did Stephen Merchant reveal that if he knew the world was going to end tomorrow, he’d kill somebody to see how it felt (an announcement met by stunned silence from Ricky and Karl Pilkington), but Karl listed his predictions for the future. And they were amazing. Seriously, the first thing he came up with is “Trousers will stop being made”, and then he explained his reasoning. It made for one of the funniest episodes to date. And the guys scored again with the finale of their travel show, An Idiot Abroad. While it was mostly a clip show with Karl recounting his journey, they were great clips. There was also a great new bit where Karl explained why he would have a hard time being gay, and another where Ricky pitched him a new show. For the record, Ricky came up with Fool’s Gold, where Karl would have one year to turn a million dollars into two million. Karl’s immediate response was that he’d spend it on classic cars, which apparently appreciate by 100% every year. Dear BBC, Science Channel, or whoever else is involved, we would absolutely watch this show. You should make it happen sooner rather than later.
