Lights Out – While the FX boxing drama is one of our favorite shows right now, it’s relentlessly dark, which makes it a tough fit for Moments of Joy. Seriously, if Lights manages to not die in the ring before the season is over, we’ll be shocked. We don’t want to leave this great show out, though. So we’re premiering a new mini-feature this week. It’s…. The Lights Out Moment of Crushing Despair!
This week had plenty of soul-crushing moments. Basically, the only tine anybody was happy all week was when Lights managed to break his training regimen and eat some pizza. There was the great scene where Lights fired his new trainer Ed Romeo, made worse by the fact that his kids cried about “Uncle Ed” leaving, and then he had to assure little Katie that they would always be friends and everybody cried. But the crown has to go to the end of the episode – Ed returns to the gym to get his things and gets in a shouting match with Lights’ brother, Johnny. Ed seems to be the only guy who gets what the viewers already know: Johnny is a reprehensible d-bag who absolutely can not be trusted. Their altercation gets physical, and the badly outclassed Johnny fishes a knife out of his desk. Just when Lights arrives to break up the fight, Johnny lashes out with his free hand and stabs his brother in the gut. And we’re willing to bet that next week will just up the stakes.
Okay, I loved Raising hope this week. I thought the Brother Husbands was classic. I just posted a blog about that before reading this.
Also I am going to have check out Justified on Fx.
Im starting to love the weekend review
Thank you! And that’s a nice Raising Hope write-up on your blog! That wasn’t a show I expected to be as good as it is, and I just love it every week.
Thanks for reading – based on your blog, it looks like we enjoy a lot of the same shows. We’re TV Buddies!
