The Best TV Shows on TV: TV’s Moments of Joy “It’s Friday! Friday!”

The Room — You think you’ve seen some bad acting, do you?  Well, unless you’ve seen The Room, we can guarantee that you haven’t seen the worst.  Every April Fool’s Day, Adult Swim airs this 2003 independent film (a term we use very loosely) and practically dares the uninitiated to stop and wonder if these people are kidding.  The scary part is that these actors (another term we use only as a way to single the people in the movie out from other humans) are deadly serious.  The story revolves around Johnny, a much creepier looking version of Fabio with weird, dead eyes and an accent of uncertain origin, and his generic blonde fiance, Lisa.  Turns out Lisa is bored with Johnny and is having an affair with his best friend, Mark.  The sets and cinematography will have you thinking you’ve flipped to something on Skinemax by accident, but the clumsily executed sex scenes are far more awkward and so boring they make you want fast forward them altogether.  The best part of those is the fact that Adult Swim hides the naughty bits with huge black bars on the screen instead of editing, and at one point, there was only about two inches of screen that weren’t blacked out for about 30 seconds.
