Nobody wears a hat like Timothy Olyphant.  In Deadwood, he was always shown in a black hat, because the “good guys wear white hats” cliché didn’t exist back when good guys actually wore hats.  And come on, wearing anything white in Deadwood was a huge mistake, what with all the filth and feces in the streets, and the virtual certainty that you could be knocked into that filth at any given moment.  His hat here seems frustrated – a classically trained hat, just another brim in a sea of hats.  It’s a hat that knows all eyes are on Joanie Stubbs’ flocked top hat.  Olyphant is a lead actor with a supporting hat.
