So what made us happy on TV this week? Mr. Sunshine–Matthew Perry took Courtney Cox’s timeslot and Matt Leblanc’s former Joey co-star (Andrea Anders) to bring us this cute show about a guy who runs a sports arena in San Diego. It’s got a solid cast and veteran writers, so we are looking forward to it realizing its potential. The pilot was a mix of good old workplace sitcom and the edgier, goofier stuff that make shows stand out, especially Allison Janney’s character, who owns the buliding. She’s an eccentric to be sure, and you can tell the actress is embracing it. Perry is a little Chandler-ish, but the whole premise is that his Ben Donovan decides he needs to make a change on his 40th birthday, so we hope that means he’ll evolve a little bit.
