Eagleheart – Adult Swim premiered a new live-action comedy this week, and it can best be described as “Get a Life meets Walker, Texas Ranger”. Chris Elliott plays Chris Monsanto, a US Marshall with a violent streak and a habit of losing partners. Fans of Elliott’s work or of Childrens Hospital should love this, as it sends up genre clichés to an insane degree. The premiere had Chris face off against Vargas, the crimelord who killed four of his previous partners. The fight left Vargas physically and mentally broken, so in order to get his revenge, Chris had to nurse his enemy back to health so he could shoot him. There’s a fantastic montage of Vargas in physical therapy, where Chris is helping him with one hand and keeping a gun trained on him with the other. The supporting cast is great too – Michael Gladis (Paul Kinsey from Mad Men), Maria Thayer (Strangers with Candy’s Tami Littlenut) and Brett Gelman (the comedian best known for getting banned from Comedy Death Ray on a regular basis) play his partners, and while they don’t get much screen time in the pilot, their roles reportedly expand over the next several episodes. Check it out Thursdays at midnight on Cartoon Network. Because that’s just what we need – another show to watch on Thursday.
