TV’s Moments of Joy: Dr. Blake Downs, Clown Doctor

Rescue Me – There’s not usually much joy in Rescue Me, and this season has been off to kind of a flat start after an amazing finale last season. But this week, it really clicked. It began with Denis Leary’s Tommy Gavin explaining the difference between booze and wine, and then took us to Tommy’s first day back at work, in which he assumed that everybody was going to make a big fuss. Suffice it to say, they did not. Then we got rival firehouses competing over which one got to resuscitate a junkie. This episode had more laughs, albeit very dark laughs, then we’ve had all season so far. It looks like Rescue Me has its mojo back, although the last moments of the episode have us very worried about one of our favorite characters.  We may be rescinding this joy next week.
