TV’s Moments of Joy: Dr. Blake Downs, Clown Doctor
This next bit is not a Moment of Joy, but it’s something we wanted to note. Harvey Pekar passed away this week. You might know him from the movie American Splendor, where he was played by Paul Giamatti (and also by himself), or from his 80’s appearances with David Letterman. And maybe you know him from his comic book, also titled American Splendor. Harvey, a file clerk from Cleveland, wrote stories about his life. Sometimes they were just little vignettes about something interesting he saw, and sometimes he wrote about little annoyances in life. He had a knack for finding the story in exchanges that other people wouldn’t have noticed. The man was a true original, and he’ll really be missed.
