TV’s Moments of Joy: Dr. Blake Downs, Clown Doctor

Corddry plays Dr. Blake Downs, the clown doctor, who is the least absurd thing about the show. It’s completely over the top and it’s hilarious. Right now, they’re running the original webisodes, with new material to follow at the end of August. But the cast is absolutely top-of-the-line, with the kind of people you don’t expect to see on Adult Swim. Megan Mullally does a very mean impression of ER’s Kerry Weaver that still has us laughing. Comedy superstars Rob Huebel and Ken Marino and nerd-goddesses-in-the-making Erinn Hayes and Lake Bell provide most of the soap opera, and they do it gloriously. There are small roles for Michael Cera, Nick “Ron Swanson” Offerman, and Ed Helms (who plays “Dr. Ed Helms”). The new episodes will bring Watchmen’s Malin Akerman and Henry “Fonzie / Barry Zuckercorn” Winkler in, and we are eagerly anticipating this. This is a cult favorite in the making, and you’re going to want to get in on it now.
