The Best Shows on TV

TV’s Moments of Joy: Elvis Costello Dog

So basically, the answers are “probably not” and “it’s always possible”.I’m keeping my fingers crossed, because TV really needs Murray.

Second, Bruce asks:“Who’s your favorite late addition to an established cast?”

EJ:For me, this one’s not even close. But before I get to the obvious answer, I want to mention a few runner-ups.Andy Bernard on The Office is one of the best – Ed Helms added something to the show that we didn’t realize we were missing. And he keeps making the show better, even after they’ve gotten past his “Angry Guy” arc.In a lot of ways, he’s becoming the heart of the show, deranged as that may be.Then there’s David Puddy on Seinfeld – I love the weird energy he brought to the cast.Anybody with a soul will agree that TV’s Frank was much better than his predecessor on Mystery Science Theater 3000.I really like Woody on Cheers, though I don’t know that I like him better than Coach. That one’s too close to call.I’m a big fan of Reed Diamond’s Kellerman on Homicide: Life on the Street, and his partnership with Lewis was one of the high points of the series. And I may be alone on this one, but I’ll cite Tornado Shanks from Sealab 2021.While Harry Goz’s Murphy was hilarious, Shanks changed the direction of the show in an interesting way.He wasn’t funnier than Murphy, but his introduction brought longer story arcs and actual character development.
