TV’s Moments of Joy – Happy ValenBirthiversary!

30 Rock – Chloe Moretz (Hit-Girl from Kick Ass) appeared this week as the heir to Kabletown.  Jack tried to point her on another career path to eliminate the competition, but ended up reawakening his own love of marine biology.  And if you aren’t absolutely tickled by the scene of Jack Donaghy as a sea captain, then you are dead inside.  Meanwhile, Liz brought on a new female writer to prove that she doesn’t hate women.  Unfortunately, Abby Flynn was both hyper-sexualized and hyper-infantilized, which enchanted the other writers, freaked out Liz, and earned the wrath of Jenna.  There was actually an interesting debate between Liz and Abby about media images of women, but since this is 30 Rock, it happened in the midst of things that were hilarious.  And yes, we’re pretty sure that was the only reference to frottage that we’ve ever heard on a network sitcom. Parenthood–This week’s visit with the Bravermans was far from joyous, as we got to witness the fallout of Crosby’s decision to sleep with Gabby, Max’s therapist.  The repercussions and guilty feelings flew fast and furious.  Crosby had a tantrum on the basketball court with Adam (though Adam didn’t know what it was really about), Gabby quit her job when she was uncomfortable upon seeing Jasmine show up at the house and Kristina tried to get her back following a huge meltdown by Max.  Crosby’s intense guilt was played well by Dax Sheppard, who continues to surprise us.  Jasmine’s reaction to him when he confessed was perhaps warranted in the moment, but considering that their relationship was rekindled after she sprung their 5 year old son he never knew about on him?  Well, maybe these two are just not meant to be anyway.  And in the other storyliine, John Corbett’s Seth again left his kids behind to go on tour, disappointing Drew and validating Amber.  Mae Whitman’s scenes were all aces, though, especially the song she sang at the end of the show.
