TV’s Moments of Joy: Otev, the Broadway Clam
Louie – Here’s how you can tell this show is awesome. In this week’s episode, Louis C.K. had virtually no camera time at all, and it was still amazing . We got a flashback to Louis’ childhood in Catholic school, where a nun decided to teach a certain young smartass a lesson. Enter the famously unsettling character actor Tom Noonan, who gave a lengthy speech to the class about the torments suffered by Jesus, even using young Louis as a visual aid. In the end, the poor kid has a meltdown and then a horrifying conversation with his mother. It was pitch-black and hilarious. We’ve seen a lot of comedies in our day, but we’ve never seen anything quite like this. Louis C.K. has been experimenting with the sitcom format all season, and it’s really exciting to see what he’s coming up with. And for longtime fans, it’s gratifying to see him on a project that really clicks. It seems like we say this every week, but you really need to give Louie a shot.
