The Best Shows on TV

TV’s Moments of Joy — Savage and Stark

Detroit 187–Last week’s episode of Detroit 187 was one of the show’s best to date.  It centered on a couple of skeletons found in a fall out shelter.  They turned out to be an interracial couple who had died back around the time of the Detroit riots of the 1960s.  Conversations with the victims’ families and a former Detroit officer who’d been on the force with Jesse Longford’s dad allowed the detectives to put the pieces together.  The revelation that the officer had been responsible for the deaths was chilling, but even more so was the way Fitch played on his prejudices to get him to confess to the crime.  This story also gave us a glimpse into Longford’s tense relationship with his dad, and we learned that his best friend’s family, who were white, had left Detroit at that time and Jesse never got the closure he needed.  The resulting scene where Jesse knocked on the door of his old pal’s suburban home was played beautifully.  We didn’t know how much we missed James McDaniel since he left NYPD Blue, but we now know we never want him to leave us again!
