The Best Shows on TV

TV’s Moments of Joy: Set Flavor Levels to Delicious!

No Ordinary Family – Honestly, this show has not been great.  It’s likeable, and since we like superpowers and things that star Michael Chiklis, it’s perfectly pleasant to watch while we wait for the Dancing with the Stars results show.  But there are two things we really enjoy about this series.  First, Autumn Reeser plays a lab assistant, and we have adored her ever since she played the high-strung Taylor Townsend in the waning seasons of The O.C. She’s really funny, and she makes the show seem much more clever than it is.  And then there’s Julie Benz as Stephanie, the super-speed matriarch of the Powell family.  Here’s what’s great about her – they like to remind us that she has super-speed powers, even when there’s not a reason in the story for her to use them.  So occasionally she’ll just use her speed to get from one end of the room to the other.  You’d have to think that saves her, oh maybe a second or two.  It’s the most wasteful use of superpowers ever, and it cracks us up every time.  Even better is the “whoosh” sound that accompanies a brisk jaunt from one side of the dining room table to the other.  You have to admit, that’s pretty funny.
