TV’s Moments of Joy: The Quest for Peace
Check it Out – This spinoff from Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! has been a lot of fun to watch – John C. Reilly is obviously having the time of his life playing the desperately unqualified Dr. Steve Brule. “Brule’s Rules” was always a highlight of Tim and Eric, and this new show keeps the best parts of its parent show, while minimizing the gross-out jokes and the reliance on having sketches trail off into repetitive video effects. And this week was the best one so far, as Dr. Brule presents a show about fear and deals with his lifelong problem with puppets. Reilly’s reactions really make the episode – imagine somebody slow-witted dealing with simultaneous terror, anger, and disgust. In particular, the scene where he plays with a ventriloquist’s dummy, and only panics after he looks it in the eye, is pants-wettingly funny. And where else are you going to learn that puppets come from marinara? Nowhere!
