Jackson Publick and Doc Hammer have an interesting approach to continuity. You’ll really see it at work in the early days. It doesn’t seem like a grand plan is in place or that they’ve worked out all of the backstory, but they leave a lot of empty space and keep track of what they’ve done before. You’ll see only the bare essentials of anyone’s history filled in until it’s necessary. In the current repeat cycle, Adult Swim is nearing the end of the first season, and there’s been no reference to the boys’ mother, no reason given why Brock works for Dr. Venture, and very little information about the Guild of Calamitous Intent. Rather than tease some long range story arc, they gave us the information that we needed and filled in the gaps when it was necessary.
