The Most Awesome Thing I Saw Last Week: And The Winner Is….

The runner up for me was Mickey Rourke’s no-nonsense acceptance speech for his leading role in The Wrestler at this year’s Independent Spirit Awards.  Mickey’s been to hell and back at this point, and he has no reason to pull punches (pun intended).  So, he just says exactly what he feels like, all the time, and punctuates it with four letter words.  He doesn’t remember the names of half the girls who work in the Fox Searchlight offices, and gets Marisa Tomei’s name wrong at first before saying how great she was at “climbing the pole” and doing most of the movie “bare-assed”.  The man is certainly a breath of fresh air, if nothing else.  Bonus?  Around 2:53 of this clip, you get to see a dapper Jon Hamm (aka Don Draper) enjoying the speech.  A warning…don’t watch this unedited clip if the kids are around.
