The important thing to understand about Hell’s Kitchen is that, at the beginning of the season, Ramsay hates every single contestant. No, he hates them. The idea that they have a chance at success sickens him, because they are terrible chefs with no hope at all for any kind of a culinary future. There’s this beautiful moment in every season, usually once they hit the Final Five or so, where Ramsay’s attitude shifts, and he’s so proud of them that he can barely stand still. But until that moment, we get lots and lots of personal abuse.
