The Most Awesome Thing I Saw This Week
It’s been more than a year since we’ve seen Bret and Jemaine, and when we left them, they had hit bottom. The various third Conchords formed the incredibly succesfuly Crazy Dogggz. Murray ditched the Conchords for managing the Dogggz, Mel transferred her psychotic obsession, and the guys didn’t even get a musical number in the season finale. As the new season picks up, the Dogggz have gone double platinum and Murray’s left his day job at the New Zealand consulate to get into managing full time. Meanwhile, Bret only has one shoe to his name.
The premiere is, well, fantastic. The guys are at their best, Murray sings, Dave has some wise words on negotiation (“In Latino, the word ‘Dave’ means ‘Deal’.”), there is discussion as to which gender is better at weaving, and the Conchords dress like toothpaste. Welcome back, guys! We’ve missed you so much.
I can’t figure out why this is a cult hit instead of a regular hit, but this is one of the funniest things on TV. Check it out:

Also worth noting is the preview at the end for HBO’s new comedy East Bound & Down. From Will Ferrell and Danny McBride, this looks like it should be hilarious. Frankly, I’m sold on anything involving McBride at this point. This just might bring me back to HBO after they spent last year repeatedly breaking my heart.
