I was successful in getting EJ to watch The Big Bang Theory, and I dare say it was just in time, as the show is really hitting its stride. As someone who has watched the show since the pilot, I can say it is a perfect example of why all shows need time for cast to gel and story arcs and characters to develop. Seinfeld was the best example of this, of course…a now legendary show that would have been yanked from the schedule in a heartbeat if it had not been nurtured through an anemic start. I am not necessarily comparing BBT to Seinfeld, but you get the drift. The breakout star of BBT at this time is not who I think anyone would have pegged from the start, either…it’s Jim Parsons as Dr. Sheldon Cooper, an actor who doesn’t even have a headshot or promotional photos on his imdb profile. He’s as unassuming as you can get, it seems, which is perfect for this role and this show, a quiet little engine that could, a show that’s increasing ratings in its sophomore year, when others are losing steam.
