The other link to the past came in the person of Rachel Green, the daughter of Mark. This could have been heavy-handed, but it wasn’t. Rachel has matured from a bratty teen to a lovely young lady and it was great to see her interact with all the nurses, doctors and desk clerks who remember her as a girl. The best, of course, was crusty old Frank, whose nod while blinking back tears was subtle and perfect. It was also a way to bring back Elizabeth Corday, and get her to interact with Carter, Benton (her ex-boyfriend), Kerry Weaver and Susan Lewis, who were in on the Carter Center celebration. The connection between these characters and actors is organic and comfortable and again, it was all done in a believable way. The show ended, as it began, with a huge trauma coming in to County, and all the doctors and nurses waiting anxiously in the ambulance bay. The last line was uttered by Wyle’s Carter, “Coming, Dr. Green?” as Anthony Edwards’ Dr. Green had asked Carter 15 years before.
