Van Lente also writes Iron Man: Legacy, an ongoing series with stories set during different points of Iron Man’s career. The current arc takes place during Tony Stark’s second battle with alcoholism, back when he ended up losing his company and living on the streets. I was just a young’un during that time, and even then struck me as weird that they sort of glossed over the whole “Tony is homeless” the way they did. That’s a strange and possibly fruitful story point. Van Lente clearly feels the same way, because he is telling the best homeless Tony story ever. The fact that his only possession is a set of golf clubs with a spare suit of armor in the bag made me fall in love by itself, but the whole story focuses on what I like about Tony Stark – no matter how bad things get, he’s going to turn it into a win. It’s a great book.
