Conan Week: The Portable Conan

7.  Andy Richter Controls the Universe – And finally, this is a rare appearance in which Conan doesn’t play himself.  In the 2003 episode, “Crazy in Rio” O’Brien plays Freddie Pickering, the mentally heir to the Pickering fortune and Andy’s new boss.  Freddie takes a liking to Andy, apparently dueComing soon to DVD! to the size of Andy’s head.  (“It is a magnificent gourd.”)  This alienates Andy’s co-workers and Freddie tries to make it up to them with a trip to Rio.  It all goes horribly wrong when Freddie breaks out the duct tape (“If we are to have a wedding, there must be a bride.”), and before it’s all over, he jumps out of his private plane and is never seen again.  Conan does a great job playing a lunatic, and almost every single one of his lines scores a great laugh:
“She died doing what she loved:  attempting suicide.”
“Have Research make a dog that speaks Italian.  They can either make the dog smarter or Italian easier.”
“These friends of yours, they have human genitalia…?”
“Cotton Candy?  No, I wasn’t offering it.  I was introducing it.”
“Have you ever eaten a six-pound lobster off the chest of a seven-pound lobster?”
Now, there are plenty of other Conan guest appearances out there.  From his voiceover as Zuckuss on the Star Wars episodes of Robot Chicken to a role in Queer Duck, Conan’s really made the rounds.  And that’s not even bringing up his feud with Stephen Colbert, which we like to mention every chance we get….
