Half-Ass Book Review: Are You There, Vodka? It’s Me Chelsea (Aug 4)

As I mentioned recently on my blog, Chelsea Handler is my new best friend, only she doesn’t know it.  Truth be told, I don’t even know if I could hang with her. I think I’d either hyperventilate from laughing so hard, cry because I’m too sensitive or move on because she doesn’t take anything very seriously.  But as a reader, I could enjoy Chelsea and the insane situations she relates in her book Are You There Vodka? It’s Me Chelsea all day long.

She has no patience for her parents or siblings, friends who are too high energy or people who annoy her.  She is no-holds barred…she has no problem telling people exactly what she thinks, when she thinks it.  I can only dream of being that bold.  Let’s be honest; very few of us can act that way and get away with it.  Chelsea has made it her career.
It started early on, when she was already too cool for the room at age nine.  Pressed for an excuse about missing homework, she told the teacher she had spent the previous three nights in talks to star as Goldie Hawn’s daughter in
Private Benjamin 2.  When the lie inevitably spun out of control, she rolled with it, adding more and more layers to her story and giving herself credits such as a Madonna video and a role in the off-Broadway version of Sesame Street with Meryl Streep that she dubbed Sesame Streep.
