The First Annual Spunky Awards – Part Two

SURPRISE QUADRUPLE THREAT – We knew Louis C.K. was one of the best stand-up comics in the business, and Parks and Recreation proved to us that he was a fine actor.  But finding out that he was a stellar writer and director was a real surprise.  Every episode of Louie was a gem – sometimes hilarious, sometimes uncomfortable, and sometimes genuinely powerful.  “God” was almost completely free of jokes and Louis himself hardly appeared on screen, but it was a masterful half-hour of television.  “Bully” was as awkward as anything Ricky Gervais ever put onscreen, and “Night Out” was both riotous and genuinely sweet.  And Louis C.K. wrote and directed every episode, and even edited many of them.  The first season was clearly a labor of love, and unlike anything else on TV.
