Tom Waits Week: Things Get Weird (1983-1993)

Tom Waits week continues right here with a look at the second phase of his career. When last we left him, he was on the verge of a breakthrough in his sound. He changed record labels and he stopped writing songs that he could play in bar gigs. Up to this point, every album, indeed, every song was heavy on the piano. In this phase, Tom moves on to a more experimental sound and his songwriting becomes less linear, almost abstract.
