Commentary: Why Do I Love TV? (Mar 17)

Eventually, I developed an interest in boys which nearly rivaled my enjoyment of TV.  But I still only seriously dated the ones who would watch it with me.  My longest high school relationship involved a lot of time watching Batman reruns, which were cool again in the wake of the 1989 movie.

Going away to college was a great time, but it marks a dark era in my television journey.  As I recall, I didn’t miss a whole lot of groundbreaking stuff in the early 90s, and I still managed to catch the greats, like Seinfeld, Roseanne and The Simpsons, often enough. My roommates and I made a habit of not going out on Saturdays until Sisters–a soapy show on NBC that featured a pre-ER George Clooney–ended, and I was there for the birth of ER and Friends, as well as the end of Cheers, including the entire cast showing up blind stinking drunk on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
