Sure, it’s kind of obnoxious that if you combine the names of the two lead characters, Harry Stamper and Dan Truman, you get “Harry Truman”, but we’ll let it go. It’s
mitigated by the awesomeness of Harry going out on “the rock” to sacrifice his own life to save the planet (Which you knew would happen from the first frame) and ripping off his mission patch and giving it to A.J. (Affleck) to present to Truman back on earth. And the disdain Harry has for A.J. being involved with his daughter (Liv Tyler)? Wasn’t it also obvious from the word go that it was only because he saw so much of himself in A.J. and didn’t want Grace to end up with a guy like him? Biggest cliche, ever, yet I still bit. I mean, I’d cut out that horrifying animal cracker scene; I’m not a complete moron. At least now we know that Affleck should never do accents, right?
