Matt is telling Andrew about his wife having some bone disease called Melareatosis (I’m not looking it up to see if it’s spelled right or anything, or even if it’s real), that affects one in a million people. Andrew already looks incredulous. He says to Andrew that on an MRI, the bone will look like candle wax and then something about it bowing at the cortex of the bone. It’s like he’s just picking words he heard on ER once. Further, he explains that the insurance company says the surgery is not necessary, and so this elective procedure would be crazy expensive. Matt DRs that he saw this on a “health tv show” and clarifies to us that his wife is fine; this is yet another one of his wacky strategies to garner sympathy and votes down the line. He is also shown telling Britney and Ragan all about how inspirational his wife is to him. This would be more believable if he would wipe the smirk off his face and stop fidgeting. Ragan has bought it hook, line and sinker, by the way. Matt DRs that he would donate money to the research for the disease if he were to ultimately win, just for letting him “exploit it”. He goes on that Andrew’s “a shoe salesman, not a doctor” so he thinks he can certainly outsmart him. For his part, Dr. Andrew has never heard of this disease that affects the bones in her leg, of all things, and so he’s not swayed.
